Visit the town hall, the fortress-like Palazzo Vecchio with its soaring bell tower. Outside, in the Piazza della Signoria, take in the imposing figure of the god of the sea at the Fountain of Neptune, where he stands tall, surrounded by laughing satyrs and charging sea horses. The piazza also has a reproduction of Michaelangelo's David, or you can go see the real deal at the Accademia di Belle Arti. Or visit the wonderful Uffizi Gallery to see pieces like Botticelli's The Birth of Venus.

If Gothic architecture is your interest, visit the elaborate Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore in Piazza del Duomo, right in the heart of the city. Whether it's walking on the narrow streets and exploring the cafes and restaurants that offer some of Italy's finest food and wine, experiencing the history and art of the region at the numerous museums and monuments, or simply taking in the Renaissance architecture, Florence is a city of beautiful experiences.

Just a little over an hour away from Florence, Pisa sits on the mouth of the Arno River, on the west coast of Italy, not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The city is perhaps most known for its Leaning Tower in the Piazza dei Miracoli, or Cathedral Square. There you will also find the medieval cathedral, Duomo di Pisa, the cemetery, Campo Santo, and the Pisa Baptistry.

If you stay in this historical quarter of the city, Tramontana, you will also find the Piazza dei Cavalieri or Knights' Square, and the Palazzo Reale, or Royal Palace, which Francesco I of the Medici family had designed by famed artist and architect, Bernardo Buontalenti.

Along with the beautiful churches that pepper the town of Pisa, you will also find several old palazzos, many museums and galleries, and Europe's oldest university botanical garden, Orto Botanico di Pisa. In the historical heart of the city visit the scenic Lungarni, streets with palazzos and villas that run by the river Arno.
