Ushuaia, Argentina

The southernmost town in the world, Ushuaia sits at the edge of Tierra del Fuego, Argentina's 'land of fire', so named because of the fires lit by the Indians to warn of the arrival of Magellan's ship. Surrounded by a countryside of snow-capped mountains, dense forest, rivers and waterfalls, the town has a rugged, frontier spirit. Nearby Tierra del Fuego National Park is a wildlife sanctuary.
