Long Beach, California, United States

Long Beach is located in southwestern Los Angeles County, California, on the Pacific coast. It is the fifth largest city in California and the second largest in Los Angeles County. Founded in 1880 as Willmore City, Long Beach was incorporated in 1888. The town grew as a seaside resort (The Pike was one of the most famous beachside amusement parks on the West coast from 1910 until the 1960's) and then as an oil, Navy, and port town. Today, the Port of Long beach is the second busiest seaport in the United States and has become a premier gateway for trade between the United States and Asia. More and more cruise lines are using the Port of Long Beach as an alternative to the Port of Los Angeles. Cruise ship passengers will find the R. M. S. Queen Mary, which has been located in Long Beach since her retirement. The Aquarium of the Pacific, a world-class research facility, is a popular tourist destination. The Grand Prix of Long Beach, an annual IndyCar race, takes place on city streets near the Convention Center and is one of the largest grand prix events in the world. Of course, cruise ship passengers arriving a few days before their cruise or staying a few days after can take advantage of many of the tourist attractions in Southern California including Disneyland, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, the San Diego Zoo, and Hollywood.
