Norwegian Cruise Line Health & Safety Protocols
For Sailings Beginning September 3, 2022
As the world continues to open up, luring travelers to explore their favorite destinations once again more freely, Norwegian Cruise Line has updated their health and safety protocols to further align to those of the broader travel, leisure and hospitality industry worldwide. The relaxation of global protocols and travel requirements, makes it easier for guests to return to sea with us. As such, for sailings beginning September 3, 2022, all travelers are invited to sail with us once again, regardless of vaccination status.*

Pre-Cruise and Onboard Protocols Safety for Guests and Crew
Vaccination Requirements
For sailings through September 2, 2022:
All guests age twelve and over, as well as all crew, must be fully vaccinated at least 2 weeks prior to departure in order to board. While we welcome unvaccinated children under the age of 12 onboard, it is the responsibility of the guest to be aware of any local protocols and/or travel restrictions in place at the visiting destinations at the time of sailing.
Local regulations may have booster requirements to enter certain countries - make sure to check travel requirements by country to understand country specific requirements.
For sailings embarking September 3, 2022 and beyond:
Guests age twelve and over will be allowed to board unvaccinated. Unvaccinated guests age twelve and over will be required to show proof of a medically supervised negative PCR or Antigen test taken no more than 72 hours prior to embarkation.
For guests age 11 years or younger, no additional protocols or testing requirements apply.
Local regulations may have different requirements to enter certain countries - make sure to check Travel Requirements by Country to understand country specific requirements.
Testing & Pre-Embarkation Protocols
For all sailings through September 2, 2022:
For cruises originating from a U.S. port:
Children 2 & under:
- Vaccinated - no testing requirement
- Unvaccinated - no testing requirement
Children 2 - 11:
- Vaccinated - must provide proof of one of the following:
- Negative COVID-19 antigen test result administered by a verified third party within two days of the embarkation date
- NAAT test (i.e. PCR) administered by a verified third party within three days of embarkation date
- COVID-19 Recovery Certificate*
- Unvaccinated - Negative NAAT test (i.e., PCR) result administered by a verified third party within three days of the embarkation date, as well as additional antigen testing at embarkation and disembarkation administered and paid for by NCL.
Ages 12 & up:
- Vaccinated - must provide proof of one of the following:
- Negative COVID-19 antigen test result administered by a verified third party within two days of the embarkation date
- NAAT test (i.e. PCR) administered by a verified third party within three days of embarkation date
- COVID-19 Recovery Certificate*
- Unvaccinated - unable to cruise
For cruises originating from a Canadian port:
Children 5 & under:
- Vaccinated - no testing requirement
- Unvaccinated - no testing requirement
Children 5 - 11:
- Vaccinated - must provide proof of one of the following:
- Negative COVID-19 antigen test result administered by a verified third party within two days of the embarkation date
- NAAT test (i.e. PCR) administered by a verified third party within three days of embarkation date
- COVID-19 Recovery Certificate*
- Unvaccinated - Negative NAAT test (i.e., PCR) result administered by a verified third party within three days of the embarkation date, as well as additional antigen testing at embarkation and disembarkation administered and paid for by NCL.
Ages 12 & up:
- Vaccinated - must provide proof of one of the following:
- Negative COVID-19 antigen test result administered by a verified third party within two days of the embarkation date
- NAAT test (i.e. PCR) administered by a verified third party within three days of embarkation date

For cruises originating from a Piraeus, Greece:
Children 12 & under:
- Vaccinated - no testing requirement
- Unvaccinated - no testing requirement
Ages 12 & up:
- Vaccinated - must provide proof of one of the following:
- Negative COVID-19 antigen test result administered by a verified third party within two days of the embarkation date
- NAAT test (i.e. PCR) administered by a verified third party within three days of embarkation date
- COVID-19 Recovery Certificate*
- Unvaccinated - unable to cruise
Cruises originating from all other destinations:
For all sailings September 3, 2022 and beyond:
For all cruises - unless country requirements differ.
Children 11 & under:
- Vaccinated - no testing requirement
- Unvaccinated - no testing requirement
Ages 12 & up:
- Vaccinated - no testing requirement
- Unvaccinated - Proof of a medically supervised negative PCR or Antigen test taken no more than 72 hours prior to embarkation is required.
*Please note, a COVID-19 Recovery Certificate may be presented as an alternative to the testing requirement as noted above if you have tested positive within 90 days (US) or 180 days (EU) of your scheduled embarkation date. This excludes all voyages visiting Bermuda.
- At check in, these guests must have one of the below acceptable forms of COVID-19 Recovery available (dated no less than 10 days and no more than 90 days (US) and 180 days (EU) before embarkation):
- For European citizens, this would include an EU Green Pass or comparable certificate.
- For guests unable to present an EU Green Pass (i.e. U.S. citizens), a doctor?s note, plus a laboratory-confirmed PCR test result with the proper information (i.e. name, date, date of birth, positive result etc.) will be accepted.
Cruises originating from all other destinations: all guests are not subject to pre-cruise COVID-19 testing.
Face Coverings
Masks are optional on all sailings, unless visiting ports in Italy. In these ports, masks are required while indoors. Italian ports specifically require KN95/FFP2 type masks.
Increased Sanitation, Upgraded Air Filtration, Enhanced Health Services
SAFETY ABOARD NCL SHIPS
Continuous Ship-Wide Cleaning & Disinfection Measures
Comprehensive enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols, using EPA approved disinfectants, have been implemented throughout the cruise experience.
Upgraded Medical-Grade Air Filters
Norwegian is strategically installing medical-grade air filters of the highest filtration grade, MERV 13 or HEPA, capable of removing 99.9% of airborne pathogens, including COVID-19, and implementing new bi-polar ionization technology.
Enhanced Onboard Medical Teams & Health Services
Norwegian has improved their onboard medical capabilities with additional staffing relative to capacity and enhanced facilities including new and upgraded equipment and onshore medical institution partnerships.
Dedicated Public Health Officer
All ships will sail with a dedicated Public Health Officer on board that will oversee the day-to-day sanitation and cleanliness of all public areas and accommodations.
Thorough & Effective Mobilization Plan in Event of Outbreak
MOBILIZATION & RESPONSE
Contact Tracing
If a positive case of COVID-19 occurs, Norwegian has various contact tracing methodologies to identify and notify those who may have been exposed.
Dedicated Public Health Officer
Dedicated isolation and quarantine accommodations will be available if needed. Norwegian follows CDC and Local Health Authority policies and guidance in regards to isolation and quarantine for positive cases and close contacts.
Debarkation Scenarios
Norwegian has developed a thorough mobilization and response plan focused on collaborating with local authorities and coordinating safe passage home for all guests and crew should the need arise. They have also established relationships with onshore medical institutions and enhanced their telemedicine consultation capabilities.
